Everything you need to know about Clearflow Digital, Spendly, and our privacy-first approach.
Spendly is an Android app that automatically tracks your UPI spending by reading transactional SMS payment notifications your bank sends after every UPI payment. It requests the READ_SMS permission solely to identify and parse inbound UPI payment confirmation messages — it never reads personal messages, OTPs, or any other SMS content. It categorises each transaction and shows you clear spending insights, all on your device, no bank login or credential sharing required.
Spendly reads only the transactional UPI payment confirmation SMS that your bank sends after each UPI transaction. It uses the Android READ_SMS permission exclusively to recognise and parse these UPI payment messages — not personal messages, not OTPs, not any other SMS. Each message contains the merchant name, amount, and timestamp needed to build your spending picture. We never ask for or access your bank credentials, UPI PIN, or net banking login.
Yes. Spendly tracks transactions from all UPI apps on your phone simultaneously. If you use GPay for groceries, PhonePe for recharges, and Paytm for utilities, Spendly consolidates everything into one unified spending view, no manual entry needed.
No. Spendly is not a payment app and does not link to your bank account, UPI PIN, or any financial credential. It is a read-only analytics tool. It cannot send payments, access your balance, or initiate any financial transaction. Think of it as a smart spending diary that fills itself in.
Everything happens on your device. Transaction data is parsed, categorised, and stored locally in the app's private storage. No financial data is ever sent to our servers. If you enable Cloud Backup, it is end-to-end encrypted before leaving your phone - we cannot read it even if we wanted to.
No. By default, Spendly is fully offline; every transaction stays on your phone. The only data that ever touches our servers is anonymous crash reporting (which you can disable in Settings) and optional Cloud Backup, which is end-to-end encrypted so we never see the contents.
If you don't use Cloud Backup, all your data is deleted when you uninstall the app. If you use Cloud Backup, your encrypted backup stays on our servers until you delete your account from Settings. After account deletion, the backup is permanently removed within 30 days. Your UPI SMS history on your phone remains unaffected.
Yes. Clearflow Digital is compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. Because Spendly processes everything on-device and never collects financial information on our servers, our architecture inherently meets the data minimisation and purpose limitation principles of the DPDP Act. Our privacy policy has full details.
Yes. Spendly has a generous free tier that includes unlimited transaction tracking, auto-categorisation, and weekly spending summaries. Spendly Premium adds unlimited Wrapped reports, Cloud Backup, priority support, and advanced insights for a small monthly or annual fee.
Spendly Premium unlocks unlimited Wrapped share cards, end-to-end encrypted Cloud Backup, advanced spending insights and trends, priority customer support, and an ad-free experience. See our products page for current plans.
You can cancel your Spendly Premium subscription at any time from the Google Play Store subscription settings. Your Premium features will remain active until the end of the current billing period. After that, you'll continue with the free tier - no data is lost.
Open Spendly and go to Settings > Delete Account. This removes your profile and any cloud-synced data from our servers. To clear all local data from your device, uninstall the app. See our Data Deletion policy for full details.
Spendly works with all major UPI apps in India — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, CRED, and any other UPI app whose bank sends a transactional UPI payment confirmation SMS. If your bank sends a UPI transaction notification via SMS, Spendly can parse it. Spendly never reads personal SMS messages, only UPI payment confirmations. No integration or setup per app is needed.
Not yet. Spendly is currently available exclusively on Android. We are exploring an iOS version, but due to platform limitations around SMS access on iOS and the fact that most Indian UPI users are on Android, our focus remains on delivering the best experience there first.
Very little. Spendly runs a lightweight background service that reads SMS notifications as they arrive - it doesn't poll or drain battery. The app is under 25MB, and your local transaction database typically stays under 5MB even with years of history. Battery impact is comparable to keeping a messaging app installed.
